DEPARTURE USA Overnight flight from Philadelphia to Cagliari, Sardinia which could be with United Airlines or Lufthansa. From other gateways you could fly via Rome or other European cities. Note that the following itinerary may be revised according to our confirmation of services that are subject to availability. Day 1:

Welcome to Sardinia! Note that arrival transfer to the hotel is not included but we can arrange a car service for you. Taxis are available to go to your hotel. Uber is not available in Sardinia. In the evening, meet your travel companions as we share our welcome dinner and get to know the typical flavors of Sardinia. Day 2:

CAGLIARI: THE CAPITAL Today, with our Sardinian guide, Anna Maria, we will discover the “Castello," its fortifications, its bastions, and the magnificent Terrazza Umberto the First. Along the way we’ll sample Sardinian culinary specialties and explore the famous San Benedetto city market. In the afternoon, we will visit the Museum of Archeology, the perfect introduction to the extraordinary archeological sites of the island that we’ll see later in the tour. Evening dinner at a local restaurant. Day 3:

CAGLIARI STEPPING BACK INTO PREHISTORICAL TIMES This morning, our local guide, Anna Maria, will accompany us to Su Nuraxi, a UNESCO site near Barumini, forty miles north of Cagliari. This well-preserved monumental site which developed during the seventeenth century BCE consists of nuraghe, a bastion of four corner towers plus a central one, and a village inhabited from the thirteenth to the sixth century BCE. Then we’ll go to the Su Enju Winery for a wine tasting and snacks. We return to Cagliari for a cooking class to prepare our dinner. Day 4:

ORISTANO AREA: CENTRAL WEST PART OF SARDINIA We leave Cagliari to reach Oristano, a 65 miles highway drive. Walking tour of Oristano with Anna Maria. This medieval city is famed for the Sartiglia, spectacular equestrian festivals featuring masked knights, which take place during Carnival. We’ll continue to Cabras to visit the Giovanni Marongiu Archeological Museum where the gigantic and enigmatic Nuragic statues dating from 900 - 800 BCE were found in 1974 a few miles away at Monte Parma. Lunch in Cabras, where bottarga (dried salted red mullet roe) is made. We’ll learn how this “golden caviar” of Sardinia is produced and used as a condiment, especially to season Fregula (or fregola) Pasta. We will also visit a preserve factory. Day 5:

SU GOLOGONE EXPERIENCE Morning visit to Andrea’s farm where they raise dairy and meat cattle and produce. We’ll taste some of their products as well as local wine. Next, we go to Santu Lussurgiu, a small medieval town which developed in the crater of an old volcano. Here they produce casizzolu, a pear-shaped yellow-tinted cheese. Lunch at Antica Dimora del Gruccione where they serve a five-course menu that changes daily, according to the season and availability of products. We continue to Su Gologone, 65 miles away. We’ll stay at this unique hotel for 2 nights. Day 6:

SU GOLOGONE EXPERIENCE We spend a full day at Su Gologone, the renowned, family-owned rural lodge in the lush central Sardinian countryside which is celebrated for its authentic regional cuisine, and vibrant traditional decor. We’ll have lunch with the shepherds, one of the many cultural, agricultural, and recreational activities offered here. Day 7:

ALGHERO, THE LITTLE BARCELONA, WHERE PEOPLE SPEAK CATALAN We return to the West coast to visit Bosa, a charming and colorful town built along the river Temo (a 65 mile drive). Its castle crowns the top of the hill, and a maze of narrow streets drop down towards the river. Next, we take the beautiful panoramic road which runs along the Mediterranean coast and stop for lunch at a local restaurant along our route to Alghero. Check-in to our hotel for three nights and gather again with our guide for an early evening walking tour of the old town. Day 8:

In the morning, we visit SA MANDRA, an agriturismo (farm inn) and prepare the pasta we will enjoy for our lunch.

In the afternoon, we enjoy a scenic drive along the coastal area of La Nurra del Sud on our way to La Grotta di Nettuno (Neptune’s Cave) which we will reach by a short boat ride which offers spectacular views around the Cape of Caccia.

In the afternoon, we visit Podere Guardia Grande for a tasting of their excellent wines before returning to Sa Mandra for dinner.

Day 9:

ALGHERO A DAY AT LEISURE Enjoy a day at leisure to explore Alghero and perhaps do some last minute shopping before our Farewell Gala Dinner at MABROUK, a restaurant run by fishermen. Their motto is: Solo Pesci / Solo Fresco / Solo Notte: “Only Fish, Only Fresh, Only at Night.” Day 10:

ARRIVADERCI SARDINIA After breakfast, transfer to Olbia airport for your flight back home (not included) or to Alghero if you are flying with Ryanair or Easy Jet. Possibility of extensions in Europe if you choose to do so. Day 11:
